They are Opiiidion holbrookii (Putnam, 1 874) and Ophidion beam Jordan and Gilbert, 1883. Both names are based on the same species, and the species to which Ophidion Iwani was applied in tiie l9(-)()'s and later is undescribed. We also describe three additional species in this complex. This paper pro\'ides descriptiims to distinguish each of them from each other and from O. holl'niokii, a species discussed in tiiis paper onl\' in a comparative sense.
