ATIVIDADE REPRODUTIVA DE BOTHROPS NEUWIEDI EM CATIVEIRO (SERPENTES, VIPERIDAE) Maria Lúcia Machado Alves^ Moema Leitäo-de-Araujo^ Eduardo Caberlon^'^ ABSTRACT REPRODUCTIVE ACTIVITY OF BOTHROPS NEUWIEDI IN CAPTIVITY. Eighty females and 25 males of Bothrops neuwiedi Wagler, 1824 were observed between 1990 and 1997. Eighty five parturitions occurred, resulting in 581 (x6.8) live neonates, 82 (xO.96) stillbom neonates and 243 infertile egg masses. Fifty three copulations occurred, from wich 29 were observed and 27 females arrived already fertilized from nature. The copulations were verified from April Ist to July 28th and the births between January Ist and May 12th of every year, with gestacional periods varying from 205 to 320 (x271) days. The number of live neonates is directly related to the size of the female, and there was an average increase in weight of 108,91g from the copulation to the parturition and an average decrease of 153. lg after parturition. INTRODUÇÃO Aspectos da biologia reprodutiva de Bothrops Wagler, 1824, Bothriechis Peters, 1859 e Porthidium Cope, 1871 foram estudados por diversos autores. Leloup (1973) observou cópulas, período gestacional e nascimentos de ninhadas de Bothrops moojeni Hoge, 1966. Leitão-de-Araújo & Perazzolo (1974) noticiaram a ocorrência de dois partos úqB. alternatus D. B. & D., 1854 em cativeiro, nos meses de março e abril, cujas fêmeas foram fertilizadas na natureza. Hoge & Federsoni Jr. (1976/77) observaram o parto de um exemplar de B. atrox (L., 1758), capturado prenhe e que pariu 33 filhotes vivos. Antonio (1980) descreveu corte e cópula e citou o período gestacional para Bothriechis schlegelii (Berthold, 1846), que pariu 20 filhotes vivos e 4 ovos atrésicos. 1.
