Sobre o género Elapomorphus Wiegmann, 1843 (Serpentes, Colubridae, Elaponriorphinae)* Thales de Lema' RESUMO O autor faz uma avaliação da sistemática e taxonomia das espécies e subespécies do género ' Elapomorphus \N\egrriar\r\, 1843. O género é dividido em dois subgêneros, Elapomorphus contendo as es-f^cies portadoras de dois escudos prefrontais e Phalotris Cope, 1862, compreendendo aquelas com apenas um prefrontal. O nome f. spegazzinii Boulenger, 1913 é usado para designar a espécie mais co-mum da Argentina e E. lemniscatus Duméril, Bibron et Duméril, 1854, para a espécie própria do Brasil meridional e Uruguai. E. trilineatus Boulenger, 1889 e E. Iheringi Strauch, 1885 são consideradas subes-pécies de E. [Phalotris) lemniscatus. É descrita uma nova subespécie, E. [Phalotris) lemniscatus divittatus, ocorrente nas serras baixas que se estendem do sudeste do Rio Grande do Sul ao sudeste do Uruguai. Chave, diagnose, distribuição, habitat e desenhos a cores da pele do tronco são oferecidos. ABSTRACT A systematic and taxonomic account of the genus Elapomorphus Wiegmann, 1843 is presented. The genus is divided in two subgenera, Elapomorphus, for the species with tv\/o praefrontal shieids, and Phalotris Cope, 1862, for the ones with singie praefrontal. The name E. spegazzinii Boulenger, 1913 is used to assign the most common species from Argentina, as well as E. lemniscatus Duméril, Bibron et Duméril, 1854 to assign the ones from southern Brazil and Uruguay. E. trilineatus Boulenger, 1889 and E. iherifígi Strauch , 1 885 are considered here as a subspecies of E. [Phalotris) lemniscatus. E. (Phalotris) lem-niscatus divittatus is described for first time; it occurs n highiands of southeastern part of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil to southeastern Uruguay. Key, synonymy, characterization, distribution mapsand colour illustrations of thetrunk skin are provided. The genus now comprises the following species and subspecies in South America. Subgenus Elapomorphus W\th 3 species, E. (£) quinquelineatus (Raddi, 1820) from eastern Brazil, E. [E.) lepidus Reinhardt, 1861 and E. [E)wuchereri Günther , 1861, both from southern part of the State Bahia to Espírito Santo, in Southeast, Brazil; Subgenus Phalotris with 6 species placed in four species group: the tricolor Goup with red dorsal colour, and white belly, two species — E. [P.) tricolor Dumér\\, Bibron et Duméril, 1854 from Chaco region and adjacent áreas (Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina); E. (P.) mertensi Hoge, 1955 from Southern Brazil (States of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Paraná); the spegazzinii Group with dorsal striped pattern and black markings in the belly, two species — E. (P. ) spegazzinii Bou\en(^er , 1913 from Ar-gentina, with two subspecies, E. (P.) spegazzinii spegazzinii from the Provinces of Buenos Aires and La Pampa, with dispersions to northeastern Provinces; E. [P.) spegazzinii suspectus Amaral, 1924 from Subandean and arids districts of Argentina; the nasutus Group, with pointed snout, contains one species E. [P.) nasutus Gomes, 1915 from South Brazil, states of São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina to southern Paraguay. E.
