Thomas Bell, Esq., was chosen by ballot to fill up the vacancy in the Council, occasioned by the death of Samuel Lord Bishop of Carlisle, the Society having been specially summoned for the purpose of filling up such vacancy. Nov. 20. Mr. Brookes, F.L.S., exhibited specimens of Gy-pa'etos harhatus, two species of Larus, and a gigantic variety of the Rabbit {Lepus Cuniculus, Linn.). Mr. Lambert, V. P., exhibited cones of Pinus syl-vestris, Linn., found at considerable depths in the peat-bogs of Armagh, Ireland, in perfect preservation. The Secretary read a letter from John Cresswell, Esq., F.L.S. , to Joseph Sabine, Esq., F.R.S. and L.S., informing him that a fish unknown to the oldest fish-ermen had been taken in the river Exe, weighing one hundred weight, proving identical with that known at Gibraltar by the Spanish name of Umbrina (Scicena cirrhosa, Linn.).
