ARKIV FÖK ZOOLOGI. BAND 13. N:o 7. Å new Genus and Species of Net-winged Midge (Blepharoceridae) and an nndescribed species of TanyderidaB (Diptera). By Dr. CHARLES P. ALEXANDER, Urbana, Illinois. With 2 Figures in the text. Communicated January 29th by Chb. Aurivillius and Y. Sjöstedt. Among some interesting Diptera from Southern Pata-gonia and Chile kindly sent me for determination by Dr. Sjöstedt, there was included a single specimen of a very primitive Blepharocerid that cannot be referred to any of the known genera. The fly is of especial interest as being apparently the most southern species as yet made known. The family Blepharoceridae or net-winged midges is a small group whose members are apparently relicts of a for-mer geological age. Thirteen genera are now known, distri-buted in the foUowing regions: Apistomyia Bigot. — Paliearctic, Oriental, Australasian. Hapalothrix Loew. — Paliearctic. Blepharocera Macquart. — Holarctic, Oriental. Philorus Kellogg. — Holarctic, Oriental. Hammatorhina Loew. — Oriental (Ceylon). Neocurupira Lamb. — Australasian (New Zealand). Peritheates Lamb. — Australasian (New Zealand). Elporia Edwards. — Ethiopian (Cape Colony). Bibiocephala Osten Säcken. — Nearctic (Western North America). Arkiv för zoologi. Bd 13. N:o 7. . 1
