Zur Wasserkäferfauna Nordwestdeutschlands Teil I: Adephaga (Haliplidae, Noteridae, Gyrinidae, Hygrobiidae, Dytiscidae) (Insecta, Coleoptera) Von Ernst-Gerhard Burmeister Zoologische Staatssammlung München Abstract A contribution to the aquatic beetle fauna ofNorthwest-Germany. Part 1: Ade-phaga (Haliplidae, Noteridae, Gyrinidae, Hygrobiidae, Dytiscidae) (Insecta, Coleoptera) The aquatic beetle fauna of a great number of waters in 1 different areas in the northern part of the Eifel and the Niederrhein was investigated in 1976-1978. The small ponds of the Breiniger Berg near Aachen, some of them with a high concentration of heavy metals, and those of the Drover Heide near Düren received special attention. Eighty-one species of adephag aquatic Coleoptera could be found in the waters. Of the 1 04 species reported from Northwest-Germany until 1977 by KoCH (1968, 1974, 1978), 81 species were found during this investigation. PlymackeRS (1980) found in some little running waters of the Eifel anoth-er 5 species. The bogs of the Eifel are of special interest, there could be found 23 species. HORION and HOCH (1954) quote only 9 species for this area. Until now the following species were unknown in the area investigated: Laccophilus variegatus Germ., Hydroporus ferrugineus Steph., Stictotarsus duode-cimpustulatus F., Dytiscus circumflexus F. and the horeomonta.ne Agabus wasastjernae Sahlb. An-other 13 species, whose distribution is insufficiently known, are to be classified as rare and some new ecological data for these were gathered. A great number of nearly undisturbed waters of anthropogene origin possess a rieh fauna, and so-called ,,ubiquitous" species were never dominant. The training areas Breiniger Berg and Drover Heide serveas refugiafor a great number of aquatic insects. Respectively, 38 and 44 species of Gyri-nidae, Haliplidae, Noteridae, Hygrobiidae and Dytiscidae were found from these area, including many rate species. 73
