Volume 114 1963 Number 3467 SCARAB BEETLES OF THE GENUS ONTHOPHAGUS LATREILLE NORTH OF MEXICO (COLEOPTERA: SCARABAEIDAE) Henry F. Howden^ and Oscar L. Cartwright' The purpose of this paper is to facilitate the identification of the species of Onthophagus of the United States and Canada and to pre-sent information on their habits and life histories. Twenty-three species and subspecies described from North America, two species introduced from Europe and Africa, and eleven previously unrecog-nized species are included. A key to the species, bibliographical references, complete new descriptions, photographs of both sexes, and maps of distribution are given. Important nomenclatural changes are presented. Acknowledgments As a staff member of the University of Tennessee, Howden was encom-aged to make four field trips to Florida and Alabama to study distribution and biology of the group. Later the Entomology Research Institute of Canada supported three trips to Texas, Arizona, and Mexico in 1958, 1959, and 1960.
