Kational Museum, for identification, in 1881 aud 1882 by the Public Museum of the Institute of Jamaica at Kingston. Two or more examples of each species were included in the collection, in order that one complete set might be returned with the names and the other retained in this mu-seum. The common names are those in use among the fishermen of Kings-ton. "We have not thought it necessary to redescribe such of the species as are well described in Gliuther's Catalogue of Fishes in the British Museum, and simply refer to the descriptions in that work, except in the case of new species. The numbers under the names of the species refer to the museum catalogue of fishes ; those preceded by an * have been retained in this museum ; the others were returned to Kingston. 1.
